    When outfielder Coco Crisp was injured, Jacoby was called up to the Red Sox on June 30, 2007, and given the number 46. He made his major league debut in center field -- batting 9th against the Texas Rangers at Fenway Park.

    Jacoby got his first major league hit against Robinson Tejeda of the Rangers in the bottom of the third inning of this game. In the top of the next inning, he made his first put out - catching an easy fly ball off the bat of Sammy Sosa.

    July 2, 2007
    Jacoby stole the first base of his major league career against Ranger pitcher Brandon McCarthy and catcher Gerald Laird on July 2. Fans were also impressed when he scored from second base on a wild pitch.

    July 5, 2007
    Jacoby was optioned back to Pawtucket on July 5, after appearing in 6 games for the Red Sox.

    August 17, 2007
    On this day, Jacoby was recalled for the second game of a doubleheader. He batted in the lead-off position and played center field. He was sent back to Pawtucket after the game.

    August 24, 2007
    On this day, Jacoby set a new consecutive game hitting streak record for Pawtucket. His streak will end at 25 games on August 31.

    Boston Red Sox manager Terry Francona announces that Jacoby Ellbury will be amongst those minor league players called up to fill the 40-man roster, which opens up on September 1 in preparation for the playoffs. .

    Jacoby hit his first major league home run, a solo shot, off of Daniel Cabrera of the Baltimore Orioles in the bottom of the 4th inning.

    Jacoby has been seeing daily playing time for the last several weeks, due to the injury to Manny Ramirez. It is difficult to say what Jacoby’s role will be on the team once Ramirez is activated - he is a spark to the club and the fans enjoy seeing him play.

    October, 2007
    When Manny Ramirez and Coco Crisp returned to the lineup, Jacoby no longer started, but would come in as a defensive replacement. When the playoff roster was announced, he was selected. Manager Francona intends to use him in the playoffs as a pinch-runner, and as a late inning defensive replacement. Indeed, in the first game of the series vs the Angels, he went in in the 9th inning for Manny Ramirez and made a highly praised running catch, that many pundits believe Ramirez would not have been able to make.

    The 2007 World Series
    To date (October 28, 2007), Ellsbury has started every game of the World Series in center field. He made the catches in center field, and his bat really came alive in the third game - played on Saturday in Coors Field in Denver, CO, when he went 4-5 and set a couple of records, along with his fellow rookie Dustin Pedroia.
