Lincoln Enterprises was formed by Gene Roddenberry in order to sell Star Trek merchandise, as well as merchandise for his other TV shows.
Early in 1977, Roddenberry produced Spectre, a TV-movie starring Robert Culp and Gig Young as a pair of supernatural investigators.
Before the TV movie even made its debut, Roddenberry's company had sent out a 12-page newsletter featuring photos from the episode, and a page of merchandise to purchase. Also part of this newsletter was the urging, on every page, for people to write to NBC to ask them to make Spectre into a series. The series never materialized.
