MOVIES: Trog (1970)Simon Lack is 55 years old.
The movie begins with three young men going potholing (spelunking) in the English countryside. They come across a gi-normous cave, and deep within its bowels lives the missing link, Trog. He kills one of the young men. Trog is captured and brought to Doctor Brockton's research institute, where she tries to civilize him. All goes well, until the evil Sam Murdock (Michael Gough) trashes the lab and then lets him out of his cage, presumably he'll be blamed for the lab destruction. Instead, Trog breaks out of the house entirely, and kills Murdock. He then kills a few more people - who attack him first - kidnaps a little blonde girl because she reminds him of a doll that Dr. Brockton (Joan Crawford) had given him, and returns to his cave. The populace of the nearby village are furious with Brockton, who points out in vain that everything was working fine until Murdock intervened. Colonel Vickers comes with his troops, and Inspector Greenham (Bernard Kay) is there as well. Colonel Vickers asks Dr. Brockton to tell him more about the cave, and shows her the charts. He makes the decision that they'll blast a hole into the lower part of the cave. The little girl's mother comes to berate Dr. Brockton, and Inspector Greenham and Colonel Vickers concur. Dr. Brockton goes into the cave and retrieves the girl. She then asks Vickers to let her go in with her hypogun, but he refuses. Trog is to be killed. That's Simon's final scene. The action inside the cave is led by a different military man - with no lines, just making gestures while giving orders. And poor Trog is killed.
