| University Hospital |
On Feb 22, 1972, Asimov entered University Hospital to have a benign thyroid tumor removed from his throat. He wrote an essay, "Doctor, Doctor, Cut My Throat," (F&SF August 1972) in which he mentions this, and it is anthologized in The Tragedy of the Moon (1973).
In his introduction to The Tragedy of the Moon he names some of the people involved:
Dr. Paul R. Esserman - internist
Dr. Manfred Blum - endocronologt
Dr. Carl A Smith - surgeon
Renee Vales - nurse

Asimov wrote this essay for The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction and it appeared in the October 1972 issue.
