Galaxy escorts Simon and Miss Darling into the Planning Room, where SWORD are waiting for him, grimly. Warlock informs Simon that "you have annoyed me intensely."

"You must cooperate with us," he finishes. And "Let me show you what will happen if you don't."

They go into the cellar, which is outfitted as a laboratory, exactly as it appeared in Volcano Seven, with one exception. A high-powered laser beam device has been added.

Simon says that he can't write a story about Hermetico unless he sees it himself. Warlock puts the question to the other members. Frug points out that Warlock made two visits to the Bank of England in Volcano Seven and that they should "Stick to the book." The rest of the characters agree, "Stick to the book."

Warlock bows to the will of the majority, and tells Galaxy t make the arrangments to visit Hermetico. He then points out to Simon that if he should attempt to warn anyone at Hermetico, Miss Darling will suffer for it.

Before leaving, Miss Darling sereptitiously tucks a piece of paper in Simon's pocket. It's an account of what's going on.

Simon and Warlock are given a tour of Hermetico by Mr. Carson. We see all of the obstacles involved. Simon asks various questions in a German accent. At the end of the tour, as they are about to exit the grounds, Warlock's hat blows off, lands in the neutral zone, and explodes a land mine -- something that he hadn't known existed. Simon is not pleased with the discovery.

Once back in the Planning Room at SWORD, Simon attempts to convince the men how impossible the job is. But Warlock feels nothing is impossible for Amos Klein, and Simon's resignation is not accepted. Warlock gives them 48 hours to come up with a plan.

In his room, Simon tells Miss Darling that they just have to come up with something. "But you know I'm no good at it, Amos." says Miss Darling. Simon gives her a look. "Oh, I don't know, you come up with some quite good ideas, sometimes."

They begin to brainstorm, while the SWORD characters look on from the Planning Room. Warlock finds the whole process fascinating.

In their room, Miss Darling types away at her manuscript.

Finally they have only one obstacle left - the invisible infa-red beams covering the neutral strip. But Miss Darling is tired so they decide to take a break for the night. Simon professes his admiration for Miss Darling, with or without glasses. She sits in his lap and takes off her glasses. "Now you're invisible." That's the cue, and she says, "Glasses." Simon realizes instantly what she means.

The next day, Simon explains the plan to Warlock and his men. Specially coated polarized glasses will enable them to see the infrared rays, and they'll be able to navigate through the mine field using them.

The gang agrees to the plan, and Warlock sets a date. Then, they have to practice.

We see Frug trying to navigate his way through the mine field, without success. However, the plan is still going to go ahead as scheduled.

While waiting for the time to leave, Frug glances through a movie magazine, and as luck would have it there are photos of Simon Templar escorting the actress to the premiere of Sunburst Five.

Warlock announces the new plan. Simon is coming with them - and he will go through the neutral zone first.

Warlock orders Monk to take Miss Darling down to the cellar. Miss Darling breaks away from Monk, briefly, and scrabbles amongst a table of dart guns for a few seconds before he recaptures her and takes her to the cellar, where she is locked into place in front of the laser. Simon, now uniformed as are the rest of SWORD, arrives in the cellar to see Miss Darling's plight. If Monk doesn't receive a phone call at the appropriate time, Warlock tells him, Miss Darling "fries."
