    Sisters Katherine (14 Feb 1891 – July 8, 1977) and Marjorie Stinson (1886 - Apr 15, 1975) were two pioneer female aviators. In addition, they were pilot instructors.

    Katherine Stinson was known as "the Flying Schoolgirl."

    On September 23, 1913 Katherine Stinson became the first woman airmail pilot. Marjorie joined her as a pioneer air carrier on May 20, 1915 (each made only a few flights in this capacity. World War I grounded most women pilots except those who flew for fundraisers.

    This is a Colorano "Silk" cachet. Although it is a First Day Cover, the stamp in question is of the Wright brothers. Neither Katherine nor her sister have have a stamp honoring them.

    This cachet/FDC is part of the Women's History Series by N.O.W. - no. 73.

    This is Issue No. 131 of The Official Collection of The Pioneers of Flight put out by The International Aerospace Hall of Fame, and Fleetwood cachets.

    The cachet is postmarked April 29, 2000 - the day Stinon was inducted into the International Aerospace Hall of Fame.
