Amelia Earhart (July 24, 1897 – disappeared July 2, 1937) earned her pilot's license when she was 26 years old, in 1923. It was her ambition to make a living as a pilot.
June 17, 1928 - Earhart was a passenger on the flight across the Atlantic Ocean, and thereby became the first woman to fly across that ocean.
1928-1932 - Earhart participates in various aviation events.
May 23, 1932 - Earhart flies from Harbour Grace, Newfoundland to Derry, Northern Ireland, to become the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean.
1932-1937 - Earhart participates in various aviation events.
June 1, 1937 - Earhart and her navigator, George Putnam, take off on their second attempt to fly around the world.
July 2, 1937 - Earhart and her navigator take off from Lae, New Guinea. They are never seen again.

On an evening in April 1933, Amelia Earhart took Eleanor Roosevelt for a flight over Washington, DC to Baltimore, Maryland. They were dressed in evening gowns. After the flight, Eleanor got her student's permit and Amelia promised to give her lessons, but Amelia went missing in 1937.

The SS Amelia Earhart was a 411-foot Liberty Ship launched on Dec 18, 1942 by Todd Houston Shipbuilding in Texas. She transported WWII supplies until 1945.

Earhart's Last Flight
Suriname is a country on the coast of northern South America. It's official languages are Dutch and English.
On 3 June 1967 the country issued a set of stamps to honor Amelia Earhart.
The text above the photo states: "Commemoration of the visit of the aviatrice."

Earhart made this stop, at the airport at Paramaribo on her attempted round-the-world flight with navigator Fred Noonan, on June 1, 1937. 27 days later, after she'd reached Lae, New Guinea, she and Noonan set out for Howland Island, near Hawaii, but never arrived.
